From the “shit you can’t make up” files indeed… Matt Ortega of AMERICAblog on Rick Perry’s Brokeback Mountain moment:

Rick Perry launched an anti-gay ad called, “Strong.” In the ad, he attacks gays openly serving in the armed forces. As it turns out, the gays get their revenge… the jacket Rick Perry wore in the ad? Heath Ledger wore it in “Brokeback Mountain.”

This is just fantastic. I know others who have the same jacket, but seriously. This is rainbow sprinkles on a shit sundae right here.

According to Ortega’s post, the divisive ad even caused conflict on Perry’s staff. You know it’s bad when your own staff thinks it’s slightly to the right of Attila the Hun. Here’s my take on the ad from yesterday and discussion on Scumbag Rick Perry’s hypocrisy. Hint: Slam Obama for excluding Christmas. Exclude Christmas.

Okay I am by no means a Rick Perry fan, and I know we’re all having a freakin’ field day with this, but can we please stop for a second and look CLOSELY at their jackets? They are NOT THE SAME JACKET AT ALL. Look at the seams, the material used in the collar, the inside of the jackets. JUST LOOK. If anything, they share a color scheme.

I’m also not a fan of how this jacket is “how gays got their revenge” just because it was used in brokeback mountain (even though it wasn’t). This is pretty much your standard work jacket, I own one myself.

Trust me, I am appalled by the blatant hate present in Perry’s commercial. But that doesn’t give us any more right to stoop down to his level, and be all like “OH HE’S WEARING THAT GAY JACKET LOLOLOL”

Let’s stop passing this around before we make ourselves look really dumb, please. Thank you.
